Business Slower This Summer? Good. Here's How to Use It.

6/17/2026

If your business has been quieter lately, you're probably not imagining it. Summer tends to slow things down across the board with fewer walk-ins, slower decisions, and clients who are harder to reach. It happens every year, and it happens to most businesses.

That doesn't make it feel less stressful when you're in the middle of it. But before you start making big moves out of anxiety, it helps to know what's actually worth doing during a slow stretch, and what isn't.
Make Sure It's Actually Seasonal
The first thing to do is look at whether this slowdown matches last year's pattern. If your business dipped around the same time in June or July last year and picked back up in the fall, that's a seasonal cycle and not a warning sign.

Knowing the difference matters, because the right response to a seasonal slowdown is very different from the right response to a real business problem. Seasonal slowdowns call for patience and preparation. Business problems call for a different kind of action.

If this is the first summer you're noticing a significant dip, it's worth taking a closer look at your numbers before drawing conclusions.

Do the Work You've Been Putting Off
Most business owners have a list of things they want to handle "when it's not so busy." Summer is when it's not so busy. This is the time to actually get to those things.

Some of the most practical things you can tackle during a slower stretch:
  • Get your paperwork in order. Contracts, vendor agreements, employee files, business licenses. If something has been sitting in a pile or hasn't been updated in years, handle it now.
  • Look at your expenses. Go line by line through what you're spending. Subscriptions you forgot about, vendors you could renegotiate with, costs that don't match what you're getting. Slower revenue makes expense control more important, not less.
  • Fix what's been annoying you. Every business has processes that are clunky, slow, or just not working well. When you're busy, you tolerate them. When you're slower, you have time to actually fix them.
  • Update your online presence. Your Google Business Profile, your Facebook page, your website hours and photos. These things get stale and slow business down without you realizing it.
The businesses that come out of summer in the best shape are usually the ones that used the slow time to get ready for the busy time.

Stay Visible Without Spending a Lot
A slower season doesn't mean you stop marketing. It means you market smarter with less noise around you.

A few things that don't cost much but keep you visible:
  • Post consistently on social media. Even once or twice a week keeps your business in front of people. Share what you do, who you've helped, or what's new.
  • Ask for Google reviews. Happy customers rarely leave reviews on their own. A simple, direct ask — by text or email — works better than most people expect. Reviews help new customers find you when they search.
  • Check in with past customers. A quick message to someone you haven't heard from in a while costs nothing and sometimes turns into real business.

Use Your Chamber Connection

If you're a chamber member and you haven't been to an event in a while, summer is actually a great time to come back. Events tend to be smaller, which means more time to actually talk to people instead of just exchanging cards.

It's also a good time to look through the chamber's membership directory and identify local businesses you might want to work with, refer to, or partner with before you need them in a hurry.

If you have questions about upcoming events or want to get more out of your membership, reach out to the Pembroke Park/West Park Chamber. We're here to help connect you with the right people and resources.

A Simple Plan for the Rest of Summer
You don't need a complicated strategy. Just pick a few things and do them:
  • One internal task — something you've been meaning to fix or update
  • One visibility move — a review ask, a social post series, a check-in with past clients
  • One relationship — someone you want to reconnect with or meet for the first time

That's enough to come out of summer with momentum instead of just waiting for it to be over.
